Authority is strongly tied to the theme of “treatment of the mentally ill,” which questions who has authority to make decisions regarding those who are mentally ill (since they sometimes or always cannot make decisions for themselves). In Flowers for Algernon, the discussion of God sometimes comes up in the context of religion or faith, but more often when the extent of authority is questioned. ![]()
